Yesterday I was reading an article that a woman was Kayaking and had beavers come up to her and start attacking her in the kayak. It was a short article and I am unsure of how or where she was at beside in a river and more then likely they is a nest close by. I have heard that beavers can be aggressive but being from southern US not really beaver territory so I have never came across any close up.
On my drive home from work it had me thinking that how to train for anything even when you have nothing on you?
We all train for close-encounters because most fights will be taking place in close range. In a defense, such as being out at a store or home defense your battle will be close within 5 yards. Like the attack noted above the range was close range.
The ability to defend yourself or friends close to you is to make sure to be prepared. Training must include firearms, knifes and hand to hand combat.
Being a former deputy in my academy I was put into each of these situations and taught some basic hand to hand combat. This was in the form of a discipline. Karate, Ja-jitsu, taekwondo are all good forms to learn for close combat, I trained in ja-jitsu to form a good foundation for this.
You do not always have to win the fight you may have to encounter the goal is to stay alive and return home or defend your family. The ability to learn some hand to hand or close quarter firearm drills is important. I train on the target being feet away. Stating in the holstered position pulled and shot three rounds from the hip close range in quick fashion. Practice the motions before and research, watching videos. The target is the girdle of the hip the create a stopping power taking out the ability to move or defend.
How do you train for close quarter combat or hand to hand?
