Full-size or Micro handguns

Today we are discussing the best handguns for you to carry. Is it going to be a full-size or a micro-sized? What are the advantages and disadvantages of full-size pistols or micro-sized handguns? Why should you consider a smaller format pistol or look at a full-size? Does bigger mean better?

Advantages of full-size pistols

  • Full-size handguns are a blessing when you are able to shoot them for longer distances.
  • Full-size pistols also have better and stronger grips that allow more space for my hand to wrap around the grip and get my pinky finger planted on the bottom of the grip.
  • They also feel heavier so you could feel less kick from firing the rounds.

Advantages of micro or small pistols

  • Smaller pistols or Micro handguns have the ability to be carried with less clothing but offer the same protection as a full-size handgun.
  • They hold less rounds and are 2-2 1/2 inches smaller barrels.
  • This in turn gives you the ability to cover and not have a drag on a belt, purse, or bag.
Disadvantages to full size handguns
  • larger (of course), heavier then the counterpart.
  • Can print (leave an indent on shirts) to show your are carrying
  • pull your belt and pants down
  • poke/stab when sitting down or walking
Disadvantages of micro pistols
  • Less rounds per magazine
  • smaller grip for your hands
  • less accuracy over longer distance

I have carried both full-size and micro handguns. You can tell from above that both types of pistols have advantages and disadvantages. Choosing the one to carry could depend on how you are dressed. I prefer full-size in the winter or colder months and a smaller framed pistol in the summer/warmer months.
